Beautiful places to visit this August bank holiday

August bank holiday weekend is fast approaching us and before we know it summertime will be over for another year (although it hardly feels like summer with the weather here in England)! If, like me, you are a lover of nature and the great outdoors and are looking for new places to visit this bank holiday, then you’re in luck! I have gathered together a few personal favourites of mine in this post.

Langsett Reservoir

Location: Edge of the Peak District, Sheffield

Langsett has been a favourite spot of mine for several years now. I’ve visited countless times, I would like to add, not just in the summer but all year round. The nature reserve provides a 3 mile walk around the reservoir, offering beautiful views with every step and covering a mixture of woodland footpaths, moor land and concrete pathways. There is also a free car park with toilet facilities. If, after your walk, you’ve worked up an appetite you can choose between Bank View Cafe if you fancy a cup of tea and a bacon sandwich or the Waggon & Horses pub if you’re feeling like some pub grub.

Ingleton Waterfall Trail

Location: Ingleton, edge of the Yorkshire Dales

Here’s one I definitely couldn’t miss off the list- Ingleton Waterfall Trail is a truly beautiful spot and one that I was initially surprised to find in England! I’ve visited a few times, but I remember it only took my first visit to completely fall in love with the place. You’ll find stunning views of numerous natural waterfalls along all 4.3 miles of the walk. Admission for adults (+16) is £7 and children are £3 – car parking is included with your ticket and there are also toilet facilities, a cafe and gift shop to check out. Due to the trail having many steps, it is unfortunately not suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs.

Appletreewick

Location: Yorkshire Dales

Appletreewick is another beautiful little spot tucked away in a corner of the Yorkshire Dales. If you’ve been to the Yorkshire Dales before, then no doubt you’ll be familiar with the breath-taking views on offer – Appletreewick is no exception. You can take a riverside walk through woodland or if you’re thinking of staying for a few days, then be sure to check out Masons Campsite. Masons offer traditional camping and caravan pitches, or if you want to step it up a level to glamping – you can choose between a safari tent or a yurt! The last time I visited Appletreewick I stayed in a yurt at Masons and it was honestly such a fun experience! We even had our own fire pit; we got wrapped up in blankets and toasted marshmallows under the stars – a camper’s dream!

Kinder Scout

Location: Edale, Peak District

No matter where you visit in the Peak District it is bound to fulfil your love of the great outdoors, and there are MANY places to choose from – Kinder Scout is just one of them. The journey from Edale to Kinder Scout is a 10.75 mile walk in total, following the rocky valley of Grindsbrook Clough and finishing at Jacob’s Ladder. The walk is tough at parts, particularly at Grindsbrook where you are sometimes required to scramble up the rocks (I wouldn’t recommend the trail for young families), but the views are completely worth it! Always make sure you follow a map.

That concludes my top picks of beautiful places to visit – I hope it has filled you with inspiration and a sense of adventure to go and explore what England has to offer. Whether you decide to visit one of these places or elsewhere, I hope you have a great bank holiday!
