My month at Beach Walk 1, Perranporth, Cornwall

Last month I embarked on a journey that I had been dreaming of making for years – four weeks in Perranporth on my own.

I have grown up in Yorkshire (where I currently live), but my family’s ‘second home’ has always been by the Cornish coast. I have holidayed in Falmouth and Perranporth all of my life and so by the age of twenty- one I had completely fallen in love with the place. My ultimate dream is to one day make a permanent move to Cornwall, hence why this solo trip has been so important to me. I spent my time doing what I love most – body-boarding, surfing, visiting old favourites and new places, but I also used it as a mini ‘trial run’ and got a feel for what it would be like if I really did make the big move.

I decided to book my trip with Duchy Holidays because I felt that I could happily rely on them to provide what I needed; my family has booked with them several times in the past (we have stayed at the Atlantic Bay Apartments) and we have always been so happy with our accommodation. During my recent visit I stayed at Beach Walk 1, which is located in Perranporth town above a charity shop and only about a 2 minute walk away from Perranporth beach! The apartment sleeps two people, but as it was just me I had a little extra space. I found it to be suited perfectly to my needs; a cosy kitchen/ living area, a bedroom with a double bed and a bathroom with bath and shower facilities. There is also a balcony (shared with Beach Walk 2) which provides great views of the beach and serves as a perfect spot for watching the sunset. I couldn’t have asked to be better placed. I had the town practically on my doorstep, with access to a supermarket and the beachfront just a short walk away – I think I could have quite happily stayed there forever!

Of all the places in Cornwall then, why did I choose Perranporth? What exactly makes it so special? Perranporth town may be small (the beach is by no means of a similar scale), but that’s no reason for it to go unnoticed. Here are my reasons for why you should choose Perranporth.

It’s home to some of the best waves on the Cornish coast – If you enjoy body boarding or surfing it’s one of the best places for this! Even if you are just a learner, there are several surf schools around for you to choose from – I had a lesson with Ticket to Ride surf school and had great fun in the water; the instructors are really enthusiastic about what they do and I even managed to improve my technique a little too!

A beautifully unique beach – Perranporth is the only beach in the UK with a pub on it’s sands, The Watering Hole, which also happens to be an ideal spot for sunset watching.

A small, quaint town – Home to a selection of unique shops you won’t find in any other Cornish town!

Convenient connections to nearby towns and beaches – You can catch a bus into Newquay or Truro (this is something I enjoyed doing quite regularly) or take a coastal walk into St Agnes.

For me, Perranporth is the perfect place to spend a holiday as it’s got everything I could ever want. If you are heading to Cornwall this summer and are yet to experience the place, then I hope that I have convinced you it is certainly worthy of a visit.
